Anystring Privacy Policy

Anystring is a tuner for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, and double bass on Android, iOS, and the web.

Anystring has no user accounts, advertising, or backend of its own. Pitch detection runs locally on your device. Optional anonymous usage statistics can be turned off in About.

This Privacy Policy explains how Anystring handles information when you use the app.

Microphone

Anystring needs access to your microphone to detect the pitch of your instrument.

The app asks for microphone permission when you use the tuner. Audio from the microphone is analysed locally on your device in real time solely to estimate pitch.

Microphone audio is:

• not recorded;
• not saved;
• not transmitted to us;
• not transmitted to third parties;
• not used for analytics, advertising, identification, or profiling.

Audio samples exist only temporarily while they are being processed and are discarded immediately after analysis.

Microphone access is released when tuning stops.

You can revoke microphone permission at any time through your device or browser settings. If microphone access is disabled, pitch detection will not work.

Data We Collect

Anystring does not collect names, email addresses, accounts, or recordings.

In particular, Anystring does not collect:

• names, email addresses, or other contact information;
• account information;
• microphone recordings;
• advertising identifiers;
• location;
• contacts;
• crash dumps;
• browsing activity across other sites or apps.

Anystring contains no advertising SDKs and does not sell or share data for ads.

Anonymous usage statistics

Unless you turn them off in About, Anystring sends anonymous event counts to TelemetryDeck (Germany) so we can see which screens and tunings are used. Events include app open, screen, microphone start or error type, preset id or “custom”, and whether a session reached in-tune. They do not include audio, frequencies, custom tuning names, or contact details.

Each install stores a random identifier on the device. TelemetryDeck receives only a SHA-256 hash of that identifier, not the identifier itself, and not a hardware advertising id. You can stop this at any time with the About toggle; existing local preferences stay on the device.

Data Stored on Your Device

Anystring stores a small amount of information locally on your device so that the app can remember your preferences.

This may include:

• custom tunings you create;
• the last selected tuning;
• whether anonymous statistics are on;
• a random analytics identifier and review-prompt counters;
• interface preferences.

Custom tunings stay on your device. Anonymous usage events, when enabled, are sent only to TelemetryDeck as described above.

You can remove locally stored information by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app. For the web version, you can remove it by clearing the site's browser data.

Because this information never reaches us, we cannot access, recover, modify, or remotely delete it.

Web Version

When you use the web version of Anystring, the hosting provider may process standard technical information necessary to deliver the website, such as your IP address and browser request information.

This processing is performed by the hosting provider under its own privacy policy.

Anystring does not use hosting logs for advertising or profiling. Microphone audio and custom tunings are not sent to the hosting provider by Anystring.

Children

Anystring is suitable for users of all ages.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children or from any other users. Microphone input is processed locally and is not recorded or transmitted.

Your Choices and Rights

You remain in control of information processed locally by Anystring.

You can:

• revoke microphone access through your operating system or browser settings;
• turn off anonymous usage statistics in About;
• delete locally stored tunings and preferences by clearing the app's data;
• delete browser-stored information by clearing site data for the web version.

Because Anystring does not maintain user accounts, we generally do not have a profile that can be exported. Turning statistics off stops new events from this device. To delete locally stored tunings and the random analytics identifier, clear the app's data or uninstall the app.

Where applicable, you may also have rights under data-protection laws, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of personal data and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Changes to This Policy

If Anystring's functionality or data practices change, this Privacy Policy may be updated.

The current version will always be published on this page, and the date at the top will be updated when changes are made.

If a change materially affects how user data is handled, appropriate notice will be provided where required.
